Raven

The sun peeks through the shades, hitting my eye as I groan, “Can someone turn off the sun?”

The others mumble but Lucien climbs out of the bed and opens them wide. He was the one who drank water and watched his intake so he has no mercy for us today.

“Rise and shine. What do we have planned for today?” he asks, a little too chirpy this morning.

“Lucien, how the hell do you not have a hangover?” Eli grumbles as he snuggles up to me.

“We had a wonderful night. We can’t waste time sleeping. There will be time for that tonight,” he says as he pulls the curtains away. “We have a life to get back to and a mystery to solve.”

My head is pounding as I try to sit up, but Jayce and Eli’s arms make it almost impossible. “Maybe some coffee and greasy food will ease this headache. Then I’ll be able to function again. At least I fucking hope so. This feels like college all over again.”

“I already called room service. It should be here any minute,” Lucien smirks as he holds out a hand for me, aiding me in getting up from the bed.

“Sometimes, you are too good to be true,” I say as he pulls me into him, “I think I’m going to go dress and freshen up. We have this suite until eleven, but maybe we can eat, clean up and explore the city a little before we head home. There’s a cute little bookstore that just opened, called Ro’s Tavern and Trades.”

Eli and Jayce both sit up, reluctantly.

“Tavern sounds like a bad idea after last night,” Eli grumbles.

Jayce squints at me, before rubbing the sleep from his eyes, “I thought we were going to try out that hot tub.”

“Maybe we can add it to the list of things for the house? It would be a nice way to unwind after a ghost hunt,” I counter.

“Fine, can we consider a pool, too? We’ve got the land,” he says as he stands and stretches.

“Dude, you don’t have the body of a pool boy,” Eli jokes.

“That’s why we keep you around,” Jayce fires back.

Eli exits the bed and does a pose that you see most bodybuilders do, a wide smile on his lips. Any reason to show off and Eli will jump on it. Not that I mind the view.

“Easy there,” I joke, “Don’t strain something.”

There’s no hint of hurt on his face as he stands straight up.

“Any of you three are welcome to be my pool boy,” I tell them as I grab a new outfit.

The spacious bathroom is like a little slice of heaven and those heated floors are something I do note for our house.

I knew we were about to eat but I wanted to brush my teeth anyway. It was just part of my morning routine. When I spit the excess toothpaste in the sink, I glance in the mirror and jump back at the face lingering there.

“Raven?” my uncle says. His voice is the same familiar, rasping tone I remember.
